What are Chakras and why are they important?

If you have been following my work for a while, you’ll know that I am incredibly passionate about supporting people with their physical and emotional health.

What I’ve noticed is that most of us have a tendency (myself included) to live ‘head first’. We think about what we need to eat and how we should be moving our bodies a little more. We try to release stress as best as we can. We care deeply for others and we notice how wonderful it feels when we manage to inject a little pleasure and relaxation into our busy lives.

But often, we forget that we are more than our physical selves and our emotional selves.  Yes, we have a physical body, but we also have an energy body and nurturing this energy body is a crucial aspect of holistic wellbeing.

I know. It gets a bit complicated, doesn’t it?

That’s why, I wanted to take some time to delve a little deeper into the workings of our energetic health, or more specifically – our Chakra System.  What it means, what it looks like and how Chakra balancing has the ability to restore our energy system and positively influence our emotional and physical states.

What are Chakras and why are they important?

Within our bodies, we have seven major Chakra energy centres and many more minor ones.

The major Chakras are aligned in an ascending column from the base of the spine to the top of the head. You can think of Chakras as invisible, rechargeable batteries.

Each of the seven main Chakras are connected to specific organs, glands and body systems and each Chakra is connected to a color vibration frequency - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

They regulate the flow of energy throughout the electrical network (meridians) that runs through the physical body. If the body’s ‘energy system’ cannot flow freely, it is likely that problems will occur.

Recent medical literature suggests our Chakras become imbalanced by toxins and other impurities, which include negative thoughts, additives in our food and environmental factors.

Having all your Chakras aligned and in balance results in a dynamic, peaceful and abundant life. Let's just hope we have a few balanced all at once hey? ;)

Are my Chakras unbalanced?

Our Chakras are influenced by everything we do, and go in and out of alignment and balance naturally. From minor illnesses, the daily stresses of living in a fast-paced world, negative experiences and exposure to toxins, our Chakras need to be realigned to eliminate dis-ease of your mind, body and spirit.

All of your Chakras are linked, so if one of them is blocked or out of balance, you might feel ‘not quite right’, discomfort or a sense of being mentally and emotionally out of balance. Sometimes the total energy of each Chakra can be diminished and sometimes it can be enlarged and become 'too open' which puts your body out of balance.

What can I do to balance and strengthen my Chakras?

There’s a multitude of ways that you can balance and restore your Chakras. You’re probably already familiar with a lot of them too – Meditation, Visualization, Yoga and Aromatherapy are a few of the many Chakra balancing modalities available.

Flower Essences also work incredibly well and that’s exactly why I brought out the Naughty Naturopath Mum Chakra Balance Blends.

What are Flower Essences?

They are vibrational natural medicines that create subtle energy shifts within the body.

The beauty of these blends lies in their potency and simplicity of use. You take them via drops in the mouth or under the tongue and they soon begin unblocking and balancing the energy of the Chakras.

How do I know which Chakra to focus on?

A few tips

•    Look for the areas or ailments that are affecting you.
•    You can use your intuition as a guide (you might feel drawn to a specific colour or blend).
•    You can do a full Chakra balance by using the Chakra blends one at a time or completing the whole seven (although I recommend no more than 2-3 at a time).
