The Healing Power of Tears: Unlocking The Health Benefits of Crying

I'm a BIG cryer and always have been!

When I was younger (ahem...meaning any age under 40!) I would get embarrassed by how easily I cried! Whether it was sad tears, happy tears or nostalgic tears, they used to come so quickly and easily and I was always apologising for it or trying to hide it...

Now I know how good it is for me and I almost never apologise for my tears which is a good thing as it seems to be increasing as I age (peri-menopause is soooo fun!)

So today I thought I would cover this topic...especially for anyone like myself...or for someone who is holding back their tears and might need information and permission to have a good cry more regularly...and to also recognise how important it is to let our kids cry.

So here we go, let's chat about the healing power of tears!

While we often associate tears with sadness or vulnerability, they hold immense therapeutic benefits for our emotional and physical well-being such as:

  1. The Release of Emotional Stress: As busy mums and women, we carry various responsibilities and emotions daily. Crying provides a natural outlet for releasing pent-up emotions, allowing us to release stress and find solace in the process. Whether it's tears of joy, sadness, or frustration, shedding emotional tears can be a cathartic experience, leaving us feeling lighter and more emotionally balanced.

  2. Emotional Cleansing and Clarity: Just like a refreshing rain washes away the dust and grime, tears serve as an emotional cleansing mechanism. When we cry, our tears contain stress hormones and toxins, effectively purging them from our bodies. This release fosters a sense of emotional clarity, leaving space for healing and renewed emotional well-being.

  3. Mood Enhancement and Stress Reduction: Believe it or not, shedding tears can uplift your mood and alleviate stress. Emotional tears contain endorphins and oxytocin, also known as the "feel-good" hormones. These natural chemicals help to reduce pain, enhance mood, and promote a sense of relaxation and well-being. So, the next time you feel overwhelmed, allow yourself to cry, knowing it's a powerful tool for finding emotional balance.

  4. Connection and Vulnerability: Crying in the presence of loved ones fosters deeper emotional connections and strengthens bonds. It opens the door for empathy, understanding, and support. As women and mothers, embracing our vulnerability and allowing ourselves to cry not only benefits our emotional health but also encourages those around us to do the same. Let's create a safe space for emotional expression and healing together.

  5. Nurturing Emotional Resilience in Our Children: As parents, we play a crucial role in supporting our children's emotional development. It's important to create a safe space where our kids feel free to express their emotions, including tears. Allowing children to cry and feel their emotions is a valuable gift we can give them. By embracing their tears, we validate their feelings and teach them that it's okay to experience a range of emotions. This practice fosters emotional resilience, as children learn to process and navigate their feelings in a healthy way. It sets a solid foundation for their emotional well-being and empowers them to develop strong emotional intelligence, leading to healthier relationships and a more balanced approach to life.

In a world that often tells us to be strong and suppress our emotions, I encourage you to honour your feelings and embrace the healing power of tears. Allow yourself the gift of emotional release, knowing that it is a natural and healthy way to support your overall well-being. Remember, shedding tears is not a sign of weakness but rather a testament to your strength and authenticity.

I hope this blog post has shed light on the profound health benefits of crying. If you're looking for additional support on your emotional well-being journey, be sure to explore our range of flower essence blends and mists especially Let it Go if you need help to have a good cry!
